Linear Building Contractors were approached by the owners of a bungalow in Chalfont St Peter. They had a good sized plot and wanted both an extension and a loft conversation to provide much-needed space for the family. They were also keen for underfloor heating to be installed throughout the property, for increased energy efficiency and to remove the need for radiators.
The plans were drawn out and building survey was undertaken. It was then that we identified that the internal walls were integral to the floor. This meant that in taking up the floor to install the desired heating system would demolish the internal walls.
We presented a number of options to the homeowners. We agreed that the best option would be to knock down the existing property and build a house on its footprint. This gave the owners the opportunity to have their ideal home built, without the restrictions involved in developing the original bungalow.
On this South Buckinghamshire building, we were asked to create a water-tight shell. Working to the standards demanded by building regulations, we built the blank canvas of their dream family home. Internal and external walls, structural supports, roof and ceilings were completed by our team. We then handed over to the family and they took responsibility for the interior finish and furnishing.
Although the end result was quite different from the original brief, our builders have provided the family with space and layout that meets their specific needs, without compromise. The value of the property has increased significantly, but they are in no hurry to move.
