Little Chalfont in Buckinghamshire is a desirable village, with popular schools, amenities and on the Metropolitan Line into London. As a local builder, we discussed the project with our client who saw the potential in extending their bungalow. Plans were submitted for the addition of a second-floor extension. The outcome was a house which was better suited to their current and future needs, within their prime location.
It was decided that timber frame construction would be used to convert this Buckinghamshire bungalow into a house. With this method, the timber frame construction is assembled off-site, to the exacting dimension required for the build. Delivered in sections, it allows for an efficient on-site construction process.
By adopting this building technique, the residents were able to remain in their home throughout the building development and disruption to neighbouring properties was also reduced.
Local builders Linear Building Contractors selected Benfield ATT Group, a Welsh timber frame specialist for this project, as they were able to design and manufacture a truss-free solution. The company have extensive experience in this method of construction and have featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs.
The truss-free timber frame was easier to position under the protective scaffolding lid. More importantly, it leaves the owners with an enormous, unobstructed loft space, which gives the option of future development. For now, the family won’t be short of storage space!
In addition to the main frame, they provided a timber frame at the front of the property, which is a stunning design feature.
Building Contractors for all Building Works
Following full and compliant construction of the second storey, our team of local building contractors focused on internal and external features. From insulation, electrics and tiling, to installing an impressive oak and glass staircase, we successfully transformed a dated bungalow into a stylishly modern home.
One of the final tasks was to render the entire home. The brickwork is now a light and appealing colour, which sets off the attractive windows and other details of this property renovation in Buckinghamshire.
In addition, as this property extension focused on adding an upper level, there is still a generous plot around the home for the garden and driveway.
